Being creative is much like a muscle. You must work it in order for it to grow.

Maya Angelou once said,

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

We couldn’t agree more! Working out those creative muscles only helps the juices flow. But just how can we grow those muscles and get those creative juices flowing?

Easy!

We at Kid Everest play the One Rule Game. It’s so easy, you probably won’t believe it. Just about anyone can learn how to play, no matter your age, you don’t need any special game boards, strategies nor techniques. It’s simple! You only need yourself, a few friends or family members, paper, pencil, a timer, and some random items from your house.

Want to play?

Gather some friends or family and have each one find one item in the house that typically serves a particular job. Think the tv remote, toilet paper, pencil, etc. Once everyone has found their item, give everyone a piece of paper and something to write with. Pick a person to start and have them put their item in the middle of the table. Set a timer for 2 minutes and have everyone write down things that this item could be used for.

One Rule:

Your use for this item cannot be what it is typically used for. Yep, that’s it. Anything else goes. Even the weirdest, most outrageous, unheard of use for the item is welcomed.

After 2 minutes, everyone puts down their pencil and reads off their answers. If anyone has the same use as you, it gets crossed out. The player with the most unique uses for the item, wins the round. Play rounds until everyone’s item has been used. Whomever has the most wins at the end wins.

Simple? Yup! Tons of fun? Yup!

Give it a shot, and let us know how it goes!
